You will always have a lower TTK than a dedicated DPS like a wizard/warlock etc.
It felt like a slog on my ranger too, even though i did about 50-75% more DPS but it was just way too long of a fight
I was able to kill the serpends in roughly like 7s in NG2 with Warlock earlier using chaos.
You also MIGHT be a little underleveled, so your DPS might not be outstanding due to that either. That's good cause it means you're either really good at the game or at least made a build that doesn't die easily, but the game is gonna be harder as a trade off, and since you're already a low DPS class that's probably gonna mean the Serpents are exponentially longer.
I have a bigger issue with the final boss in his P3 where he is dashing all the time and you get very little window to attack him as a melee class with a static damage source like the Warrior Primalist. I guess that's the price of being able to kill everything else with ease, but still.
