Perhaps the point of the question was to know what it does BEFORE actually taking the curse. I came looking for the same answer since I didn't want to get the curse before knowing it's effects.
To add something to the topic: higher curse also has an effect on enemy visibility and brightness as well. High curse means you can't see enemies around the corner (not even on the map) and the visuals are much darker (and slightly desaturated if I remember correctly).
You can lose curse at the pyre. The room with it is easily recognizable by its violet color. The amount you lose is random, but expect roughly around 10 curse to be purged if my experience is correct.
It's a roguelike... click it and do science. Much more fun. But yeah, stacking resistance/armour penalty. It's quite substantial. You can also get a passive at every curse orb that gives you a bonus based on your total curse amount. It's not worth it. Ever. But sometimes the skill modifiers you get are good/run saving.
Considering it would be a problem if 20 people were coming here and asking something everytime they get a buff. This allows people to look it up themselves and not have to fill forums full of easily answerable questions had they instead just tried at all to learn.
