It doesn't matter, some people are so brainrot that if they changed the game to have inflated levels and the level cap was 20000 but took the same amount of time, they would then be happy. You know how like those jokes with phone games about being 10 million power level? It's basically that, they want a high number even if it actually means nothing in game.
No matter how long it takes to get to 20 still means I only level up 20 times. . Diablo goes to level 50(maybe slightly higher by now) and the second you hit the cap you barely get anything even remotely as game changing as new skills/abilities as the previous level ups. Slightly increasing stats is not the same as unlocking abilities ect. COD is the same. No more substantial unlocks after 55. Sure you can prestige but it is no where near as impact as those first 55 levels. Baldars gate 3 only has 20 lvls then don't even earn XP anymore (yes I know its DND rules but it still sucks)
Also, your first play thru of this game you can get 20 levels but if you are struggling in new game + you get only 5 more level to truly get stronger. Sure you can get better weapons and such but it no where near the same thing.
The small amount of levels on the initial play thru and the insanely small amount of levels for new game plus is why I said pass
In addition to leveling your character, you also build the town by collecting gold and materials. Every building unlocks new upgrades and capabilities. You collect blueprints for new bonuses to select per run. You get attunement scrolls for trinkets to make them appear more during runs. Every character level and achievement adds stats to every other character you make.
There's a load of progression beyond "just 20 levels," but if you're looking for a 1:1 clone of Diablo, you're not going to find it here.
Was not looking for a diablo clone in the slightest. I was using it as an example of why I dislike games that trying to hide the fact that there are so many true level ups behind things like the prestige system in COD and the paragon system in Diablo. While this games does have things like building the town and such it is still capped at 20+5for NG+, after that I am forced to create a new character, build the town, farm materials instead of grinding for increased power.
Some folks like that sort of thing. I however, do not. I do not want to be forced into using systems I may or may not be interested in just to increase in power. Maybe I have no interest in making a new character. I like the way the one I have plays but I will hit a point where I will be forced into using another one if I want to increase my stats. I really dislike that sort of thing. I appreciate you trying to clarify things for me but the more you clarify it the less I lam interested in it. Thanks but I am still gonna pass.
You can just go to another NG+ level. It's +5 to the level cap every time.
Building the town is an integral part of your character power, too. It's not a side minigame or something. It's tied into your progression. The materials you gather are just from normal play and hardly require going out of the beaten path.
However, if you're looking for a character building game, this really isn't one. Every class has two actives and two passives, plus at level 10 you select one of three specializations that add one additional active and passive ability. There's no skill tree or insane level of buildcraft. It's very much pumping numbers into your character. Even the different classes are largely spins on the same general idea.
It's closer to infinite Gauntlet than anything else.
If it's not your kind of game, I applaud you for knowing what you like enough to stay away. I'm responding because you have a few misconceptions and I don't want anyone else to get the wrong impression about what's in the game. The clearer the information, the better we can all make choices about whether it's the right game for us.
You certainly called it. Very next post radar does what you said.
Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification
What I don't like:
- It's the same levels over and over, with slight variation on the layout. You can skip some parts here and there, but at some point you will know every area. Not enough RNG to keep it fresh.
- There is an ILLUSION of character building. The stats you get each level up will always be put in their main ability, stamina, and mana. I wanted a melee, shield-toting ranger with a wolf companion. It works in the easy levels, but later on it is heavily punished due to the strength requirement. So no, can't really break the mold.
- Most subclasses don't really change how you play all that much. Some do, I think those are the best / most interesting. The others are strong, sure, but not interesting if that makes sense.
- The curse mechanic. It's not really my kind of thing to have a permanent debuff. As soon as it's in play you have to go all-in to have it buff you or do your best to avoid it. Frankly I just don't want to deal with it.
So yea, it's a good game, it's well made for sure. It's just personally not for me in the end.
