Warrior felt rough.
Anyone else start with warrior then switch?

I love a chunky two-hander but I was getting whittled down a little too fast for a class needing to be in the thick of things. The damage is fine but the "healing" doesnt feel better than the other classes. The shield helped but I prefer that setup with a paladin.

I switched to the magic starter (sorc?) and while I havent cleared caves yet, the experience was much smoother.

Any tips for warrior?

Edit: All good now. The class felt better to me after they got those passive bonuses from other classes.

So I can't say much as I just did a single warrior run, but on my very first run as Warrior I full cleared caves and the big boss at the end. A huge reason for that was getting a relic that every time you use your war cry(your attack and movement speed skill) you would heal 30% of your health. Definitely kept me on my feet for each fight, especially with the 5 AI soldiers I had rescued throughout the run. There was a small bit of hitting and running I had to do at points, but in general I was just spinning to win and then healing when things got crazy.

Packs died so fast that I barely had to worry about mana since there was always the crystals around after a few fights. I tried Paladin in the demo and couldn't do ♥♥♥♥ because my my attack did nothing and my huge slam attack did as much as a single warrior auto attack. However, Paladin can just stick around and never die I guess.

I only did the first mission, to try the class out, but I found it pretty cool.
I'm waiting to dig into the game, until my coop buddy comes home from work tomorrow.
But I'm sticking with Warrior, I was happy to see a melee alternative to the Paladin.

Throwing Axes is a pretty solid aoe/ranged skill. And the weapon skills seems good too. You'll need to dance around packs of mobs, you can't just facetank everything.
But you can run 1h+Shield, shieldbash lets you stun a lot!

But of course it will always be somewhat easier to play a ranged class in these type of games.

better than POE2 at least
I found switching to the maul really helped a lot tbh, its slower but that stun is so useful
but i am also running into the same issue with regen only being ok when getting the warcry buff

as warrior just get the Killer physique skill trait. health regen per stack of killing spree, then you can almost avoid all mechanics even traps(just save one monster near traps to kill to keep you stacks). that combined with max health and trinket regen is pretty much gg until you get a gear/level cap in certain level.

Unironically melee has been absolutely wonderful in this game. Warrior and Paladin are immediately tanky enough to wade into a group of enemies, carving them up the whole time, and are sturdy enough that you rarely see unexpected giant losses of health so safe retreats are pretty much always an option.

I even did daggers on Rogue and had a pretty okay time. Much squishier class so it was way less safe, but Ranger does a crap ton of close-ranged damage so it sort of made up for it.

My recommendation is to constantly be moving while you're attacking. Never stand still. Also, genuinely learn the enemies. Knowing which things are dangerous enough to warrant more care makes a big difference in melee.

tips for warrior? get a shield. they are busted. not as fun as a 2hander but who needs a 2hander if phys dmg cant kill you in any way?

only enemy that can kill me are those BLASTED LIGHTNING WIZARDS and their dumb as shotgun blast

hard as first char, try other classes, warrior might just need some cool gear. Which makes sense, many of these ARPG games spellcasters are good early because all power comes from spells while martial classes rely on gear. Paladin felt good only after some levels and boosting his first skill with aoe and fire...then paladin just carried me easily.

until ng+ when curse destroys any tankiness that they are balanced around. The way the game is ranged glass cannon is the only viable way

People were flying through HoH1 on Paladin in high NG+ and that game was way worse about the '♥♥♥♥ you damage' aspect. So I'm holding out hope.

We have a lot more defensive options here and it's easier to focus on stacking them because of gear and initial run selections. I'm having fun so far, at least.

Bro, the starting magic class is wizard not sorc, and wizard is awful at the start, yes you got crazy good clear but you run out of mana instantly, they also have like no health, I refuse to believe you couldnt do a good run with warrior, but then had a good run with wizard, I swapped from wizard almost instantly and decided ill come back to it once I have Sorc unlocked to get the mana regen class title, and maybe I will devote all my skillpoints into mana for more regen as well, only then do I see wizard being viable

I tried Sorc once and got farther than with any other class (up to that point).

It's true, you just need a bit of mana regen, really. That run I had full ring set so I was just spamming my spells recklessly in every single encounter and boss.
Use your shout to proc kill streak (mod) and get the health regen mod for it. Combo Nova also works to melt things, positioning is key with melee classes and also bump or strength and vitality up a lot.

Axe return + fire damage or insta kill is good for thinning things out and weakness on your shout from blessings (chapple) in town really works too.
