Fire sorc has nice sustain, because you can get life on crit as part of that build. Just my 2 cents.
I've primarily run Lightning Sorc (NG+7), and it is fantastic for clearing mobs with Lightning Ball, but I can't deny that long-term, Fire Sorc with a skill orb that heals you on fire damage crits is probably the super endgame pick. Fire sorc can also deal with bosses really well given they can lay down a Fire Wall where bosses stand.

All in all, the mob bosses and bosses with multiple targets (Shadow Face, Harbingers, and Serpents of Demise) lightning sorc might be slightly better assuming you aren't getting hit to the point of dying because the lightning ball can deal insane damage if lined up. Fire sorc is probably better on static bosses or bosses that have a predictable pattern where they stand (Totem, Arista, and Avatar) or if you are struggling with survivability, then Fire sorc all the way.

Both will run into trouble on Dark Halls because of elemental wisps having insane resistances. I recommend taking Elemental Orb to deal with wisps strong against you (fire wisps for fire sorc, lightning wisps for lightning sorc), but it still is slow and painful.

TL:DR; Fire Sorc for sustain and static boss damage, Lightning Sorc for hallway clearing and bosses with multiple targets. Both are bad alone against wisps in Dark Halls. Overall, Lightning is probably better for low NG+ and Fire is better solely for sustain in higher NG+

Go Fire AND Lightning Sorc. Fire Mastery for health on spell crit, works on any spell crit, keep Discharge as Chain Lightning. Start with the Chain Lightning perk since it shuts off frost and scorching to thin your pool out and respec to get rid of elemental orb.

Chain lightning the halls, firewall the boss. This works better than you think since trash mobs die relatively quickly to Discharge spam + good trinkets. Ideally you find Elemental Equilibrium during your run from orbs, this boosts fire damage by 60% when you have lightning Affinity active, so you cast firewall under a boss or in front of a mob pack and then spam discharge and your firewall gets a 60% damage boost

Fire.

Gotts is wrong. You want Fire Discharge. You need fire% gear and the fire scaling will make it stronger than any other option.

You can get rid of Elemental Orb until you have enough extra points to max it. It is a skill that's off GCD and doesn't interrupt movespeed and also triggers your crit for health and mana, as well as giving you at least ONE option to kill fire element wisps in Dark Halls.

Elemental Mastery's base damage becomes mostly irrelevant (it's not +30% total damage, it goes under the elemental tag you can increase yourself). But it does have the elemental penetration skill orb upgrade, and that is one of the best damage upgrades you can get that scales for every NG+.

Lightning Sorc is actually viable, but Fire Sorc can literally play with their brain turned off in comparison.

Fire for me. Dont get me wrong. The big lightning ball is AWESOME but the level of power you get from being unkillable from that Heal On Crit is just too good. The ice and lightning need buffs imo. Every class needs some small form of survivability or life steal. Or at least make it so its a bigger tradeoff. Fire is strong and invincible, while ice is just bad in every way.

Fire worked great until i hit the last boss at ng4, it just keeps moving away from the fire and you have to move to not die so you can't keep it in one spot.
I just slowly died over time as majority of the firewall damage was wasted.

I think this is the only questionable place for fire. Haven't tried a run on the new patch, but my only struggle was Avatar. The boss wandering out of fire wall hurts the damage so much. That and the wall doesn't spread correctly if you target the boss. All you can do is try and max cooldown/cast speed and fire away there. Orb projectiles are also a thing. Not much damage but extra chances to get crits.
