That feature is already in game. I described it in the multiplayer section here

So yeah, if you wish/need for it, you can "pause" your game whenever necessary. It is especially helpful with longer runs, knowing they can take a while depending on the flow.

While that is true it is also normal for new players to experience it at least once. Some just develope a misconception about that, but that is another story.
Thanks to the latest update the game has become even easier with an improved game flow. I just wish for more Shadow Curse mechanics.
