Spell meta lads on self harm watch?
New patch. Seems like weapon damage just in. Be prepared for some warrior extremes to pop up. Personally loving it. As someone who has almost every character in a spell build and a few hybrid builds, this is great news for me, but what about those who only shoehorn and bottlenecked all their characters to spell power?

Anyway, had to rub it in a little. Week ago got shat on royally for even suggesting hybrid builds for not "being meta". Well jokes on you, you're now the off-meta. :D

What is the off meta here exactly?

A fair amount of casters use weapons and weapons getting buffed doesn't hurt those builds. Int crit damage rework is a buff up to about 400 int, at least as so far the patch note read. Which all my characters fall underneath, wizard cause they were nerfed.

Strength giving armor penetration was a bit of a needed rework as there were no trinkets that did so but elements had trinkets for a little penetration. Not great but something for free is nice. It's gonna work oddly on the casters who deal in physical damage as not many will invest 200 points for 20% armor penetration when you could choose spell power on dex and crit on int, or spell power and crit on int. That deal is more ideal for Strength characters but generally the int classes are still mostly SAD characters. In extreme late game scenarios buffing strength on wizard and warlock might make sense, but the limiting factor is free points. Use points up to where you can't gear up and you're missing out on some damage scaling and protection.

Weapons were always gonna outpace spells. They only sucked comparatively cause they didn't earlier. Weapons should have been great to use sometime in the game's life span, like before you earned all the achievements. Weapons getting a buff of damage that also scales with stats is pretty huge. They definitely needed that. Also, this title seems incredibly offensive somehow. Also, there is a spell mastery man and I'm really curious what they do, cause sounds like spells might have gotten a nice buff too.

Are you unaware that you can respec in this game...?
I know I've respecced a ton of times already just testing things out. My biggest problem with this patch is that it seems like it didn't do anything to address flat dmg vs. % dmg increase. Same skills that were useless before are still useless.

How is that relevant?

There's still gear that isn't free to re-enchant and possibly having to farm new ones, especially weapons, takes time.

But, sure. If it makes you feel better. I didn't know that.

Ah yes, the classic cost of enchanting gear. That thing I do almost every run through the tower, to keep my gear up to date. No way someone could just clear their current NG and, once back to town, enchant with whatever they desire to bolster any new build they planned to play. They could only make those enchantment changes after first enchanting whatever their previous gear had on it to the new gear. No other way, I'm afraid. Darn.

You do realize, you're kinda grasping at straws here.

I still dont understand how spell damage is somehow off-meta now when they just wanted to bring weapon damage to the same level.

I wonder that too. I don't know how weapons getting a buff wasn't just helpful for all classes, some more than others.
