Not sure how well it's explained, because I skip everything now that I know how the game works, but there's a whole lot of dialogue and I can only guess that somewhere it says 'toy dungeon first'.
Did you collect the free Nerb popper from the toy store in town? A toy that can fire projectiles is required to solve some puzzles. You should also have obtained the torch from somewhere.
Tip: A sticker exists that shows the locations of all of the dungeons on your map. It's very useful!
Also Puku is actually useful while you're still learning. Does anyone actually mention that certain toys are required for the trial dungeons? I really don't know, you don't need anyone's dialogue when you know what to do, but I earnestly want to believe that it's at least a bit useful.
Nerb Popper and Torch are required by the era 2 turorial. You get handheld through that pretty hard. Don't know what that sticker is called, but I recommend the hot air balloon, it shows all the overworld rooms. I highly recommend that one and Pipe, which reveals all map pips in a room you enter. Helps with finding more caves and such.
How many trial dungeon variants are there?
Laser ring, drone, bowling ball, golf club...
I'm missing a few, aren't I?
