Can you edit your character?

I'd really like to edit my character. I've restarted the game about 30 times and I have only gotten male human. Never even seen female or the other races. Is there some kind of algorithm to it?

Try getting to the third era.

You unlock the ability to choose your character from the third era on. If you don't know what era means:
The silly railroading tutorial is the first era. The sword dies.
Now it's the second era. You're led through the town and get exposition dumped on. Die in Mormo's tower, anywhere on hard, or beat Mormo to end the era.
Then you'll be in the third era, and you can select your 'badge', which is your character. That's the extent you have.
Of course, the other badges are found as loot.

Ahk, is it pretty easy to get all of the badges?

You unlock the badges as random drops, you can equip a sticker which increases the likelihood of getting them as drops if you find said sticker. At the start of each playthrough you select the badge, which determines the characters species and starting equipment. Their gender however is randomized along with their colour palette.

Yeah the badges are random. On one file I found 6 or so across the map, and on another, one.
Just hit every cave and chest you can.
