AI GMs too dumb, I hope they fix this big loophole!!!
After a year or two of playing as Cubs, my team dominate MLB easily. As GM of best team in baseball, I can make a trade with worst team and offer them my next year's first round pick, they easily agree to this: My Round 1 pick (probably the worst) for their round 1 pick(most likely #1 draft pick) plus their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and most of the time, even 5th. And the response from GMs are very funny. Their GM would say something like : This is a good deal for us, while my GM said: Sorry boss, but this deal does not make any sense to me. WTF.. of course I jump in on this deal. At first, I thought this is one time thing. But every year, it happens, and not just the worst team, pretty much any bad team will agree to this. Most of the time, 5th round included, but sometimes just the first 4 rounds. Because of this loophole, I usually own the first five or six picks in the first round, EVERY YEAR!!! Out of top 100 prospects, I owned about 25 and they are usually the first few. Among the top 10, I owned 9 of them, except the 8th spot. Dominating baseball is not that fun anymore because there is no challenge. Yes, I know I shouldnt be explioting the loopholes but I cant resist it when the AI GM agree to my such bad offers. I hope any OOTP mod that worked for them can reflect this info back to them and fix this in the future update. Another thing I want to say is that DURING the season(after baseball draft, before the season ends). If I have multiple same round picks, lets say three 5th pick and I wan to make a trade. I can only trade ONE of the three 5th round picks. So I cant make a trade like.. three 5th round pick for 2nd round pick, because I can only use one of the three 5th round picks, the other two 5th round picks just disappeared.

yeah this is a problem. I turned down trading and draft all the AI's players and don't make unfair trades just because the AI will accept them. Also obviously turn up trading difficulty to very hard. After winning a ton of chapionships in the first few years I haven't won 1 for like 35 years since starting to run the league this way and it actually makes it a lot more interesting and fun.

I wish they'd make the AI better but it is what it is.

OK, I guess that is a way to go, turn up the trading difficulty to very hard. I have never thought of it. I had it on average. Now I can restart the game and have more challenging game.

Well, after I start a new game and set the trading difficulty to hardest, halfway into the first season, same thing, trading my 1st round pick, I am able to get 1st,2nd,3rd, 4th round picks easily from the worst team in the MLB. Hardest difficulty didnt make it that hard to trade. The developer need to correct this..

Well in the meantime... Just don't make trades for draft picks. You can turn that off too. Just disable pick trading.

Yeah, as I said before. Hardest trade difficulty helps a bit but it won't stop you from being able to rip off the AI if you know what you are doing. The AI is competent to set lineups and play out the games but it is very poor at trading and drafting. If you want a competitive league with a bunch of AI teams in my experience you pretty much need to make a bunch of house rules and not allow yourself to exploit the AI.

Turn off draft pick trading (the default setting). Then turn trading to the hardest difficulty and heavily favor prospects. If you can put together a dynasty for more than a couple of years, then you're an OOTP god.

The game doesn't handle draft pick trading well because the MLB does not allow it. I don't think MLB ever has allowed it. Since OOTP is built around the MLB, it makes sense for them not to spend much time on draft pick trade logic.

What Boog said.

Or just don't try to take the AI on your advantage. Don't make a deal if it would not happen in real
