Bugs are a thing, sadly.
I hope they fix the controller support soon, this is a game that would benefit so much from good controller support!
I think the 360 should definitly work too.
Try to plug it in before or after opening the game and see if any change occurs.
Just one more thing, try this:
1. Hit "Ctrl+R" in Windows
2. Enter "joy.cpl"
3. Select your controller
4. Hit "properties"
5. Test your controller out.
You can re-calibrate it there just in case.
Oh, and in case you're like me - ensure you don't have any third-party controller/mapping app running somewhere in the background
Edit: By the way, my mouse is actually a mousepad on a high-end wireless keyboard so I'd rather not use keyboard and mouse for this game since it would be awkward. That's why getting the game to read my controller is so important to me lol
EDIT: Nevermind, got it to work.
Didn't know the game used Steam controller support and not actual native support. That was my issue. I only now have one thing to fix which is, pressing up on the left analog stick causes the camera to go up as well as the character to walk up. I'll figure it out I guess.
EDIT 2: It works perfect now *thumbs up!* I'm so happy lol
