I have cleared 3x3 square, as the tree seed requires, but cannot plant the seed. Have I missed something?

When you say "cleared" I assume you mean with a hoe, though you only need one square preped using a hoe.

You only should actually hoe 1X1. It needs the squares around it to be free. So no tilled ground either. We're going to clear up the language on that so it's clearer.

Aye, having this issue myself, free tiles around but refusal to plant. It's an apple tree seed if it's worth anything. My Macademia grew fine.

Do they also need watered every day like crops? I watered apple trees until they were full grown, I got apples, but then never again that season. I wasn't sure if they didn't have enough time yet in the season or if I needed to be watering still.

According to what it says about trees in the library, you don't have to water it every day once it is no longer a sapling. I haven't tried yet.

Okay, so I've tried again and I've dug up the surrounding plots to leave a single plot as I think the issue is it ONLY plants in a 1x1 plot. Tried with various hoes and digging up to leave just the one seems to fix the issue. Will try on my other save when I can.
