Recommendation: Offer a super-low visual intensity mode
Because even 50% in the original game was painful for my eyes. 25% or less would be better.

50% visual in BH2 has pretty much zero flashing. Have you tried it?

As you can see I don't own BH2 yet. Just wanting a lower intensity than 50% as even that had a lot of flashing in BH1.

But if flashing in BH2 is less intense on 50%, then I'll see about picking it up at some point.

Oh, also, is there any chance of a Linux port if it's not made already? Failing that, is it compatible with Steam Proton decently enough? Either of those would be nice considering how Linux is my preferred OS.

From someone who ONLY played with 50% in BH1 can say that 300% in BH2 is much more comfortable. 50% is almost no flashing

Awesome. I'll see about picking it up when it's close to out of early access, or even earlier if the feature list for the current release looks worth it.

Also read the dev's comments about Linux support; he's gonna work on getting it at least fully playable via Proton, which is fine by me. Native Linux support would be better, but Proton is fine too.

Let me know what you think when you get it. I'm happy to tweak the settings.

50% in BH2 is extremely strong and causes me to ask myself "Is this worth it, or are my eyes going to hurt?" I play mostly on 100%, but if I'm tired or it's dark in the room, 50% is too powerful--it feels more like 80% if anything.

I don't know if these numbers correspond directly to the actual settings for intensity, but ideally I'd wish there'd be some method of hi-pass filtering used to muffle the brightest effects instead of direct scaling. Another idea would be a toggle-able "night mode" which might adjust gamma and contrast for a more "washed-out", yet more comfortable experience.

Regardless, 50% is too visually intense to be the lowest setting at current!!!! I can imagine 50% would be fine for televisions or budget displays (it is fine), but my ASUS MG278Q is a really good gaming monitor and 50% is very intense flashing, so I'm just guessing displays similar to mine would also show 50% as intense flashes. So...

Please add more intensity scaling options!!!

For me it just depends on the brightness setting of my display. I can play on 300% without any problems and I'm a p**sy with bright lights in real live (an eye specialist just told my this is rather psychogenic for (almost?) everyone who's eyes are tearing when only thinking this is too bright). So i always reduce the displays brightness at evening (whats always a good idea cause to bringht displays make your SCN inside your eye behave as if its it's day, keeping your awake for another 4 hours).
I dont want to open a discussion on that. just saying.

It's taken me 10 hours to get used to it... I often play in the dark, with others around me on PC's and it's very distracting for them, let alone myself. I still love the game, and I've gotten used to it though.

I've had minor issues and started writing up a suggestions post - but this is one of the big factors. Remove "casual" or "chill" mode from the high scores, if we can tone down icon flashing and the intensity of the music. Changing the volume can cheat this if you have an amp, but I'd like to hear it loud with less seizures. :D

This is an issue, for a number of reasons. I have created a thread on this topic in the Suggestions forum with info on why your eyes are hurting from the game and have proposed what I think could be a reasonable fix that is fair to everybody, lone wolf dev of ours included :)

I don't have any issues with the intensity personally, but I thought throwing together a quick comparison video may help pinpoint the actual issue.

My suspicion is that what is bothering those posting here is moreso the ship flares and bullet animation intensity rather the visual intensity. Although the background does still flash a bit on 50%.

Interesting.
I'll tone down the ship flares and background strobing.

Having played the game recently during the free weekend, I think the visual intensity you've got now is decent. I will however recommend NOT giving high visual intensity a points bonus, especially when prizes are on the line, simply because 300% is too damn high for my tastes, but getting 50th for the free weekend contest is frickin impossible without it.

50% is fine now though.
