Which brings me to talk about one of the worst things about this game - the pathing. It can be really bad on stairs and ramps and in cases like this.
A good workaround for pathing mistakes is holding the mouse button instead of clicking. This way the path gets continually updated and you can just trail to the right direction. This may also help in reaching this damn chest :)
Also you might want to move the note with the code for the mana diffuser into a spot with better lighting as that took several runs past it before I finally spotted it due to it being almost invisible.
Other than that though loving the game :)
Edit: well 20 mins of pure stubbornness paid off (green helmet lol but can 100% the floor now). Worked by standing at the bottom right edge of the metal block where you connect Faradus to the fountain then just clicking up between the chest and the small pillar thing with the lamp on it. There seemed to be no difference between the try where I could open the chest and the previous tries (Kane's left foot was just on the metal rim area surrounding the pool). Hope this helps anyone else trying for this but yeah, could do without a repeat :p
This actually made no difference to me when I opened it myself. It was just the position of the character apparently (I had thought the same originally but was just clicking on the middle of the chest after each reposition and it opened fine).
