Is it worth "saving" forges?
I'm not looking for major spoilers, but if I'm going to get locked out of earlier levels I'd like to have a general heads-up :)

For the single-use forges in the actual tower/game world, is there any reason (other than the irritation of backtracking) NOT to skip over a majority of them to wait until higher level gear is available to upgrade?

I'm only at character level 5ish right now, but not having any trouble in combat. My instinct is to not 'waste' the forges on level 5 gear, and instead to wait until I find items at later level that I want to keep longer. But...my instincts also sometimes make me sad, because min-maxing isn't fun if it makes the endgame 100% trivial.

Are they worth saving because the game does ramp up in difficulty? Or does it stay pretty level/get easier and I should just use up the forges as I come across them, even if it feels like 'wasting' them on very temporary items?

You will not be locked out, except at the very end where game will explicitly tell you. Also there is a temporarily 'separate' section at floor 7 where again you will be told that (implicitly in this case).

There is no end game content so there is no 'later gear that you will keep longer'. Don`t waste forges on temporary items, but don`t stash them forever also.

The real thing you should do is raise the game difficulty (unless you are on epic). If this brings you troubles with in combat then use forges. If you are already on epic then play further and use them before boss battles as those are usualy much harder.

i had the same worry as u have, wished to save all of the forges for the last level of the tower, but
the number of gears in the game is limited, and most of them are orange or purple which can not be forged, so its pretty hard to collect enough available blue V gear.
there are about 2 forges at 11 character each, i guess save 10 forges could be enough

Thanks for the replies! I might keep a few unused, in case I find especially "perfect" items in need of upgrades. But otherwise I'll use them as I come across them.

Keep your forges, there will be class V items and those can't be crafted. Also only a handful of prefixes/suffixes are available when crafting your own equipment in class IV and a max of 3 sockets on purple items (very rarely). Found loot has double the possibilities.

The only way to have a purple equipment with 3+ (max 5) sockets is by forging.
ie. find a green class V item with an enchantment you want and 3 sockets, take it to forge, save game, forge it, does it have an enchantment you want? Good. No? Reload. This way you get a blue item with both enchants to your liking and 4 sockets, take it to another forge again and get a purple item with 5 sockets. It will be better than most uniques.
