Advice? Gongs on 4th level

I am stuck on the gongs puzzle. I have already tried all the combinations of all three of them, but I am most possibly missing something because nothing triggers any reaction. Does anyone know what to do?

Ah, already solved it .. I did not realize that there is fourth gong located at other island before.

There are four gongs, do the one that is separate from the others first.

they make a loud dong just do them in order u come in to this area

i cannot reset the altar.it still shows the same riddle and moving air graphics.i have used all 4 gongs in every possible order.i know i 'm doing this wrong;someone please help.
i'm 75 years old;i played the original adventure game on an ibm 360/40.i played my first zork
on a ps1 with a floppy;but my wife drew maps and wrote down clues and inventory;she's been dead awhile and i lose track of the mapping in this game;but i like it and i know this is too much information but... also i can't find the earth element for the earth crystal.thanks for reading this.
