If you want to give it a try - please wait for next Tue patch - we made some changes to the early part of the game and added some more customization options (it is still not a full character creation, this we will never have). New version will make the early part of the game more condensed - more fun in less time.
A demo is something else, though. A demo is supposed to be a representative vertical slice, not just the beginning (which might not necessarily tell you much about the game), and is not dependant on paying you first. You can also take your time with a demo, analyze it, make up your mind, instead of rushing through the game lest you accidentally hit the two hour mark.
I understand that creating a demo takes time and money you'd rather spend on the game proper. But Steam's refund policy is not a good replacement, and I wish demos weren't so rare these days.
(On the topic of this game in particular, I for one am also waiting on GNU/Linux support.)
I got a mail from steam saying
"Refunds are not a method for trying out games"
after i refunded some games i bought
No buy for me either.
For you, they are arbitrary reasons. Character creation is at the crux of many peoples reason to buy or not.
