This game is probably the one that I was never a huge fan of in the older games. I can't say that without explaining. The only reason I feel that way is because of the point and click mechanics. There is always just a small part of the screen that will allow you to do a action. But other than that I loved this game. I've probably played this one at least four or five times. The theming is around Marie Antionette and its rather interesting. I sort of wonder if the spin that they brought up in her history is actually true of her history. Something to ponder on that is for sure.

I had this game when I was a kid and it was my first Nancy Drew game, so there is a lot of nostalgia for me. This time you are in a castle turned ski resort in Wisconsin, but a blizzard has trapped everyone inside. Intriguingly, one of the (fictional) towers came from France and had once been frequented by Marie Antoinette.

I like the setting, story, characters, and French connection in this one. The downside is that getting to certain places can take a lot of time, and you have to go back to your room to set an alarm (to change the time) frequently. Being one of the older games, the navigation is a little finicky.

I absolutely LOVE the game, and it should be played. But not through steam, or on a newer system. Get a physical copy or something. I think HeR has stopped stopped providing support for these older games. The games (happened with Shadow Ranch too) keeps breaking and actually made my entire system crash and restart. And no, my system isn't old, and that may be the problem. As you can see from my play time, I've played this game multiple times on my PC before, and the games didn't act up like this before (and yes, I've tried every troubleshooting option).

One of my favorite early stories about young detective Nancy Drew, which saw the light in 2001, becoming the fourth game of the future huge series of games. And for the most part, my love is based on the setting of the game. Nancy goes on vacation to a beautiful old castle located somewhere in Wisconsin, but right away everything starts to go wrong: a heavy snowfall cuts the castle from the rest of the world, some otherworldly things begin to happen in the castle, and also a mysterious appears from nowhere thief. And of course, our beloved red-haired detective will have to deal with these troubles, while also fulfilling many tasks given by the inhabitants of the castle. The walls of the castle keep many secrets; during the game, almost every character can be a suspect, so you need to carefully listen to the dialogs and watch them. Everyone here is very fond of chatting and loading Nancy with draft work. That is precisely this, in my opinion, is the only drawback of the game, all too often we have to be a postman, carrying out the tasks “take it there, bring it here” This is especially abused by the local castle manager, who literally terrorizes the girl with errands. And she has to be a bricklayer, and an electrician, and a plumber, and a carpenter, and many others.

The very monumentality of the castle, its richness in historical spirit, already determines the pace and mood of the plot. A measured leisurely investigation, secrets around every corner, treasures, secret motives behind the sly smiles of the characters, logical puzzles and unexpected surprises. The scenery of the castle is made in a very strict architectural style, with all these spiral staircases, beautiful paintings on the walls, weighty wooden furniture, bearing the burden of centuries lived. It is very pleasant to be in such an environment, the study of locations is carried out in a fascinating style, you are constantly discovering something new. The puzzles here are quite demanding on the mental abilities of the player and require attention and perseverance, but they are very logical, and they fit into the local environment quite qualitatively. The characters are also quite bright, there are no any passing heroes inscribed only for quantity, each has a role.

“Nancy Drew: Treasure in the Royal Tower” is one of those games that you don’t want to play fast, swooping across the plot and trying to get to the final credits as soon as possible. This game is more like a cup of classic black tea on a harsh winter evening that you want to stretch for as long as possible, prolonging the pleasure.

I love Nancy Drew games, I have played over a dozen of them and enjoyed each one. This one put a blemish on that record, the main reason I don't recommend it is because of the navigation. This is a very unnatural version of point-click, the points at which you are suppose to click were off, to say the least. I understand that the game was suppose to be set in a castle with confusing twist and turns but this wasn't to do with the actual layout of the setting, it was on the way in which you had to move through it. Entering rooms or simply turning corners is borderline difficult to do, on top of the fact that it included such a vast setting that half of wasn't even used.

I just finished playing Nancy Drew: The Curse of Blackmore Manor and I really enjoyed it. It was almost too challenging as I had to lookup some things towards the end. Treasure in the Royal Tower on the other hand was the complete opposite. For me, it was incredibly easy and it didn't feel like there were many puzzles. If I could have, I would have returned this game for a refund. Slight gameplay spoiler in next sentence. It was also frustrating having to run back and forth through the library, turn off the alarm, go up into the vent, down into the run, unlocking the door, pulling the chains to unlock the pathway, and going through a corridor just to get to the final room. Lastly, I have seen other people say that the out-dated controls make the game unplayable. While the pointers can be finicky and are not as refined are newer Nancy Drew games, they do not make the game unplayable. Just note that you have to close everything before you are allowed to back out. For example, if you have a book open, you have to close the book before you can back out.

In conclusion, I would select a different Nancy Drew game before this one if you are looking for a challenge.

I really love the story, the aesthetics, and the music. Oh my god, the music!!!!
Genuinely, I just love the way this game makes me feel. Growing up in the snowy midwest, this game brings me back home.

Now this is a good Nancy Drew game. The puzzles, location and the characters were all interesting. It was fun reading up on the castle's history, correlations to real-life history of french revolution and talking to most of the characters and your phone pals.
For the cons I would say that there should've been an option to prop up the hidden wall, so that you wouldn't have to go trough the elevator shaft each time to get to the tower and that some of the direction arrows for movement are not in the ideal spots. Even after moving trough the castle many times over I could forget where on the screen is the next arrow.
Main villain was a tad boring. There were interesting threads on "it's" real characters, but they weren't explored in any way.

Overall - the game is quite good. While it wasn't my first ND game, I think this would be a good place to start. Took me three and a half hours to beat and they were all enjoyable with good puzzles and locations.
