I am having the same problem. It's really frustrating since I just want to play the game.

What error are you getting when you try to play it? Has it successfully installed and it's just not loading, or is it not even installing?

What happens when you try to launch the game? running with no issues here on Windows 10, RTX 2070 etc.

I am having the same problem. It seems some of these games are old enough that they are not running easily on modern machines anymore. I'm on Windows 10.

My experience is the game launches, I hear the music and see a black screen with a square white outline that I think the game screen is supposed to appear in, and then the game closes itself after a few seconds.

I've tried running it in every compatibility mode available, as administrator, 640X480, fullscreen optimization disabled. I tried editing the config file to make it run in windowed mode but it didn't work. Nothing changed in how it behaved except when running in a compatibility mode it closed itself even faster. lol

I have an idea, but I don't know how different things are with the CD version vs downloading from Steam (if there's any difference whatsoever).

I was having issues with The Final Scene a few months ago at the point of installation. I was getting a crazy error message and nothing I did, as far as configurations, etc., resolved the issue. What I did instead (and this worked, hallelujah) was I installed the patch that HeR Interactive has for a couple of known issues with the game. That might be worth a try for anyone having trouble installing or running the game. The patch can be found here: https://www.herinteractive.com/2014/04/patch-the-final-scene-simones-purse-stuck-in-projector-room-and-installer/

My problem had nothing to do with the three issues the patch is meant to fix, but it still worked. So, maybe that's the solution for you as well.

To troubleshoot the display error/crash for any Nancy Drew Game:

1. Go to your Steam library (Or just navigate in your file explorer to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\<Nancy Drew Game>)
2. If you're going through steam, right-click the Nancy Drew game > 'Manage' > 'Browse Local Files'
3. Right click the 'Game' file (the one with the nancy drew icon)
4. Click 'Troubleshoot compatibility'
5. Click 'Test the program' > let the game crash or fail
6. Open the troubleshoot window again, click 'Next' or 'Troubleshoot program'
7. Check the box that says "The program runs but doesn't display correctly" > Next > Test the program
8. The game should display and work properly
9. Exit the game, click next, and choose "Yes, save these game settings"

Can I ask where you downloaded the patch? I downloaded it but I'm not sure what folder it needs to go under to run properly. And do I have to un-zip the zip file first or can I just place the zip in whatever folder it's supposed to go in? Thanks!

I had it install in the Downloads folder--I didn't move it anywhere. Granted, this was for a CD installation, not a Steam version of FIN. I followed the prompts (I don't recall unzipping it) and that did the trick.

I hope that works for you!

Ok I'm posting this here in case it ever helps someone else! What finally worked for me is to change the display on my laptop to 100%. Then it ran fine!

Has anyone fixed the issue for pc? My game opens to a black screen, music plays and then minimises. I've tried the troubleshooting and installing the patch (the patch didn't work as it said it was already installed) but nothing will get it to work

What worked for me was going to the game's executable (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Nancy Drew The Final Scene) on windows, and going to the properties of the executable and going to compatibility and change DPI settings. I selected 'Override high DPI scaling behavior' with the scaling performed by 'application' and the game ran properly. This is on Windows 10.
