My experience is the game launches, I hear the music and see a black screen with a square white outline that I think the game screen is supposed to appear in, and then the game closes itself after a few seconds.
I've tried running it in every compatibility mode available, as administrator, 640X480, fullscreen optimization disabled. I tried editing the config file to make it run in windowed mode but it didn't work. Nothing changed in how it behaved except when running in a compatibility mode it closed itself even faster. lol
I was having issues with The Final Scene a few months ago at the point of installation. I was getting a crazy error message and nothing I did, as far as configurations, etc., resolved the issue. What I did instead (and this worked, hallelujah) was I installed the patch that HeR Interactive has for a couple of known issues with the game. That might be worth a try for anyone having trouble installing or running the game. The patch can be found here: https://www.herinteractive.com/2014/04/patch-the-final-scene-simones-purse-stuck-in-projector-room-and-installer/
My problem had nothing to do with the three issues the patch is meant to fix, but it still worked. So, maybe that's the solution for you as well.
1. Go to your Steam library (Or just navigate in your file explorer to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\<Nancy Drew Game>)
2. If you're going through steam, right-click the Nancy Drew game > 'Manage' > 'Browse Local Files'
3. Right click the 'Game' file (the one with the nancy drew icon)
4. Click 'Troubleshoot compatibility'
5. Click 'Test the program' > let the game crash or fail
6. Open the troubleshoot window again, click 'Next' or 'Troubleshoot program'
7. Check the box that says "The program runs but doesn't display correctly" > Next > Test the program
8. The game should display and work properly
9. Exit the game, click next, and choose "Yes, save these game settings"
Can I ask where you downloaded the patch? I downloaded it but I'm not sure what folder it needs to go under to run properly. And do I have to un-zip the zip file first or can I just place the zip in whatever folder it's supposed to go in? Thanks!
I hope that works for you!
