Black Screen On Launch

Two days ago I was able to play the game just fine. Loaded up a nearly finished game and was able to finish off the last wizard. Yesterday I decided to start a new game and once the game launches it gives me a black screen. Today I went to the setup menu and tried clicking on the options to prevent resolution changes and to show the intro. When I did the latter and ran the game it sounded like it was about to play the intro and then immediately went to the black screen. And when I tried switching the resolution back to where I normally have it it now only has the option for windowed mode. Anyone familiar with how to fix this problem?

Also I'd like to add that the computer the game's on hasn't been connected to the internet in 10 months. I'm not sure if that could be a cause of the problem or not. However Civ 5, Unreal Tournament, and L4D2 have all worked fine offline.

did you try the usual like compatibility mode?
anyways you can try downloading the 1.5 patch (or just take it in a pendrive if the PC doesnt have internet)

Haven't tried compatibility mode yet because the game was working just fine before now. And I didn't know about any patches for the game so I'll look into getting it. What's a good site to get it from?

The steam version of the game has a tendency to do that. The best way to fix it is by downloading the unofficial patch mod. (This also rebalances the game and includes a couple units as well)

I finally got the update, but I can't find instructions on where to put it. Which folder does it go in?

I installed the patch and I'm now getting the following:
