Tunneling and random maps - where is the dirt?

So I am back at this game after many years. I remember Big Beetles digging tunnels. In AOW3 there are clearly marked brown dirt walls and black rock walls. Well we've been playing Shadow Magic for several games and now and have not seen any earth walls underground. Are they the same color as rock? Even hovering the cursor over walls always seems to result in "rock wall".

Are dirt walls not in the random maps?

No dirt on random maps. You can make them or add them to an existing map with the creation tool however. It is called earth and rock, dirt is just the floor underground.

Ah ok, that would explain it then, thanks. There are diggable walls in random maps in AOW3. I guess my memories of AOW2 and SM are of the campaigns.
