Black Screen when I launch AoW2

For some odd reason, whenever I try to launch Age of Wonders 2. I'm always greeted with a black screen, I've tried unchecking Direct Sound and Play Intro in configuration but to no avail.
Can anyone help?

I had a problem too with it but I did not figure it out.
So I cant help; but just to let you know you are not the only one
I have it on gog too and that works fine

I have it on gog too and that works fine

I can fondly remember it working in the past. But I think that was a cracked version :/

Yes, I did. But still it doesn't work.

These problems are usually solved by turning off "Use Direct3D" and "Allow resolution switches".

I also recommend running the game in (maximized) windowed mode.

If this still doesn't work try out the different graphic settings (and nVidia Control Panel game setting to High Performance) you should be able to get the game running.

The solution that FINALLY worked for me... after updating my video card and making sure that I had a sufficient version of DirectX...

Go to your games library, right-click on Age of Wonders 2, click on Properties. Click on "Local Files." Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files." Another file was downloaded.

Restarted computer. Disabled Direct Sound and Direct3D, and made sure that it is windowed. Success!

I tried all the mentionned but still black screened. Would you know after all this time which file was it Bunny ?

Hey there, I also tried what Bunny said but it did not work for me.
Furthermore the programm worked before for me.
In game it stopped working and I also have a black screen now.

@Arnout I could not find, where I can change to window-mode, though.

Does it work for you now @Frontier Psychiatrist @Roy Sylas? If yes, what did you do?

Fun Fact: I just tried AOW2 Shadow Magic, and it goes into a black screen too when starting (since today). This game was also working before.

@cactusflower hi, i don't recall all the steps, but iirc, i went for a clean boot or sans echec boot, then game launched fine. After normal booting computer again, game started working fine.
Hope it solves same for you, may you find how to do it. GL

It can have various reasons. First thing to check, can the screen cope the needed resolution. Hope you found solution already

works fine for me on windows 10 nothing Disabled
i can also set up and play internet games just check with anti virus programs and windows firewall that its not blocking it

i guess its a bit of a lottery

one thing i see as a get around for old games i got an old laptop for about £100
running windows me you could try other old windows just make shore its 32bit
