Age of Wonders

Edit starting skill points?
Is there any way to edit how many skill points you get to build a custom leader with? 25 is just too restrictive. I tried using Cheat Engine, didn't work.

For the reference of future cheaters:

There's no way to directly edit skill points, but there's something of a workaround by downloading the developer version of the map editor and reducing the point cost of various abilities to 0. Only single-level abilities can have their points cost changed (so no reducing Spellcasting to 0 points).

This may have the side effect of making enemy heroes and leaders more powerful (ability point cost is the same for everyone), but it's the best you're going to get.

If you are talking about the campaign maps, I don't know, but if it's just a PVP map then you can use the editor and modify the heroes to your heart's content!

I was looking for the same thing with cheat engine. I managed to workaround it.

So @EightDeerOcelotClaW is correct you cannot directly find for the number of points to allocate.
It seems this number is recalculated on each allocation by looking at all original stats value(attack, damage etc) VS new value to be. This happens on every arrow click.

Now what you CAN find is the stat allocation. But this number is random, changes every game and no if you have 2 attack the memory value will NOT be 2, it might be 200 or 10, so you cant directly search for it BUT when you do allocate one point it will increase by 1. This is what you will be looking for.

Once you find the memory address give yourself negative stat from CE then add your ability ingame. The UI will refresh and you end up with more points to spend eg 30/20. This will allow you to add the abilities you want. After that you just press the down arrow on the negative stat and it will reset.

The great thing is that there is no validation if your points to spend actually go negative :)

Cheers and have fun.

Seriously, how did you get this to work? I've been trying for well over an hour or more to get this to work, and I simply can't find any applicable memory address to work with. Even when I manage to narrow down the available memory addresses to ~40 just to using "Changed value" and "Unchanged value", none of the values function by any discernible pattern, and they certainly do not correlate 1 to 1 in terms of increase/decrease in Attack.

It's incredibly frustrating, because all I want is some additional points to work with, but the way this functions seem to be needlessly obfuscated for some reason. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

If the cheat engine method doesn't work, it could be because the devs patched it :sqzcry:

You could instead use the AoW Dev Editor to edit the Release.hss file https://aow.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=1222

I use it to edit the points cost for abilites when creating my custom hero for the campaign. I have the AoW on GOG.com but it should work for the Steam version as well.

Be forewarned that it will affect your enjoyment of the game if you make an overpowered hero.

Also, it seems to preserve any changes made to the Release.hss file so even if you replace it with a backup file, all your changes are retained. So you have to remember/record all the changes you've made if you want to reset everything or delete the Release.hss file & reinstall the game.

Open AoWDevEd.exe, select "Open Mapset" and then select Release.hss (in the Age of Wonders/Release folder). Then select Setting tab, and select Abilities tab. Just edit the Skill Points of the Ability you want while making sure "Customize Leader" & "Editor" are both selected. Save your edit.

Heroes are already massively overpowered in the base game if played as a melee unit. This has been nerfed in all of the mods and spell casting was made stronger.

Perhaps checking out some of the mods would be an idea :)
