How to use TCP/Directplay to play with friends? (Multiplayer)
I can't find any info online.

I host, my friend can't see me. My friend hosts, I can't see him.

We don't want to Play by Email.

Thanks

The host will be required to configure port forwarding to run a TCP game through the Internet.

Forward the following ports to your computers IP local address.

TCP & UDP = 2300-2400
TCP 47624
TCP 6073

If you require instructions to port forward for your specific router check the following site
http://www.portforward.com

As stated earlier, only the host is required to configure this due to how TCP works and how routers handle it.

Once the host will need to get their public IP address and give it to those that wish to join the game.

Googling "What is my IP" will provide you with this information.

For security purposes I recommend disabling port forwarding rules when they are not in use.

I'm also looking into a solution for this.

I'll post here if I find a solution. There is so far no assistance; it seems the developers have abandoned this title. I was considering getting AoW: Planetfall, but I don't think I want to support them if they provide no support whatsoever. GL finding a solution, please tell me if you do!

I used Game Ranger to play it with my friends. Works just fine.

Game ranger is working really well, except for a problem my friend had in the last days.
If you want to play write me!

I tried the port forwarding, and my friend still couldn't see any games when she entered my public IP address. frustrating

Try a VPN-tunnel client e.g. Hamachi, TeamViewer or Game Ranger to virtualise the same LAN, it works fine! Almost stable multiplayer. Sometime game freezes, so what - game is 20 years old - reload save, done...

For us it doesn't work with Hamachi even with every single port allowed for all Hamachi executables and AoW exe itself in Windows. Router was set to DMZ, not that it matters since for every other old game I tried it works without any forwarding.

The only way to play through Hamachi was to install an IPX wrapper to unlock the IPX LAN option, which doesn't exist anymore by default on modern Windows systems.

We use TeamViewer. It's free for private use. You only need to registrate. It has its own VPN-Client to install seperately via program settings. Also nice features like VoIP, video, file transfer, remote control if necessary...for us it works well. Ahh and! Configure exeptions in your anti-virus program.
