Game crashes too often

Even though I really enjoyed this game a decade ago and probably still would today, the frequency of crashes is way too high for me right now.
I did all the steps described in the pinned thread. This at least reduced the number of crashes.

I'm using Windows 10 and start the game via the Setup, for which I use the Windows 7 compatibility. I'm starting the game in window mode, but then change to fullscreen ingame.

I already got crashes for:
1. right-clicking while a unit is moving
2. opening the city menu
3. trying to open the caverns map
4. just scrolling around the map

Is there anything I can do to not crash that often?

Yes, I did them all. Even twice, because I reinstalled the game once.
I can start the game just fine with these steps, but then during gameplay the game crashes after a few minutes. (longest session I had was maybe 15 minutes)

Are you running in actually fullscreen, or windowed-fullscreen? The number of crashes I've had since I started running the game in actual fullscreen is almost zero.

I appreciate the effort of the devs, but none of the suggestions worked. Before I couldn't even finish the tutorial without a crash, now it runs flawlessly.

If anyone else is having this problem. I solved it by buying a copy from GOG. On sale you can get it for 72p.
