I believe the game only does passive income via the caboose. When you're away, depending on how long you're away, it'll fill up a portion of the caboose's max capacity. When that capacity is filled, it won't collect any more. So, let's say your caboose can hold up to 100k money for example... You leave for five hours, the caboose may have filled up with 65k. Leave for a couple of minutes, maybe 1k if you're lucky.
The food cars and other money generating cars are not passive sources of income and require your attention during the trips. They will not give you the gold automatically, and will only hold up to a set amount of money. You need to actively be there to get the most out of those carraiges. Keep in mind, once you click the carraige when it has the icon over it, it will take a few seconds for it to start generating again. These carraiges are great sources on the particular long sections like the atlantic tunnel between North America and the United Kingdom area of Northwestern Europe once you have that stretch unlocked.
In short, the caboose is the game's form of passive income which you have to click every now and then to get the amount it's holding while the money generating cars require you to actively be there monitoring them.
As for the settings resetting, I can't help with that as I'm not a developer of this game. However, if you report it to them they should be able to look into it long as you provide the specs of the machine being used to play the game I would assume (The more info they have, the better they can find the potential issue). I'm, however, waiting for them to fix a particularlly annoying map bug which makes the entirety of the routes and stations dissappear from the map screens every now and then, making it impossible to select where you want to go (And while the issue is active you have to rely on the game choosing the locations you need to go randomly, so good luck if you're on a peninsula and it happens, the train will likely go the other way).
I know that, but i get nothing. Really nothing. When im away for a few hours it says my gold vault is empty and i can click the gaboose like an idiot, I don't get any money out of it ;) . And even the countdown for the jobs stops when I'm away.
It's a bit strange. On some days it does work now - even with waypoint and offline on Steam and sometimes not. But I dont't know why ... .
I thought this, too, but I tested it without waypoints and it remained the same. On rare occassions I'll make more than 500 (up to 700 or 800), but almost always it's 500 max.
True. As I said above at first - I've set no waypoint either and it collected 0 gold and travelled 0 miles.
Only a few with this bug?
I'm pretty sure the game's been abandoned.
