Best RPG of all time. Steam version is great but SNES is the definitive version for me. Steam version has most of the extra DS content like Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum.

The downsides are the stuttering when moving diagonally and of course, the removal of Frog's accent from the translation of the SNES version. Oh well. Still great game. Highly recomend!

Chrono Trigger deserves every bit of praise that it receives. It manages to take a complicated time travel story and make it digestible and make sense. It has brilliant art design and one of the best video game soundtracks of all time. However, some of the characters aren't as fleshed out as they could be and there are a few frustrating battles along the way. Still, it's one of the very best JRPG's out there and still holds up to this day.

Had a pretty fun time getting all the endings. The game is based on the ds/phone release so you get the extra dungeons and battle against Time Eater. Definitely worth it if you've never played it before. It's about 20 hours long and the game does not waste your time.

One of humanity's greatest achievements!

It's crazy to think that this game came out almost 30 years ago. This was my first time playing it so I don't have any nostalgia for it, yet I still think that this is one of the most unique and innovative RPGs that I have ever played. The time travel mechanic is fantastic and I love the way that it is utilised in the main story, as well as the various side quests. My only real complaint with this game is that it can be sometimes difficult to figure out where you're supposed to go, so a guide did come in handy on a few occasions during my playthrough. Aside from that, Chrono Trigger is a near perfect game and I can see why it is one of the most beloved games from its era.

Speaking specifically about this port, it's decent. There are a few annoyances, such as the fact that the new textures look awful, although fortunately the original textures are also available. The button layout is also a little confusing sometimes as the dialogue boxes still refer to SNES buttons (AXYB) which makes a couple of sections more hassle than they should be. Other than that, this port is pretty solid and I don't have any major complaints.

TL;DR: Great game, decent but not flawless port.

Holds up pretty darn well! I'm more of a Western RPG guy but there's an undeniable style to JRPGs that can be captivating and this is still one of the best ones. The music, the art, the characters, the whimsy... it's all here and handled as well as it ever is. The writing can be basic and the combat pretty simple, but it gets by on charm and style.

Use a CRT filter though, for heaven's sake. These pixel games blown up on a large PC monitor look awful without one. I recommend the Retroarch filters through Reshade, but just use something, anything. Suddenly Chrono's face goes from a messy blob of pixels into a well designed man with cool hair. Highly, highly reccmmended.
