If you are using a nintendo switch pro controller, it should work just fine, just make sure to go into your steam settings and allow a pro controller to be used. I didn't and i had trouble using the joystick, but once i allowed steam to recognize the pro controller it worked just fine

Just download betterjoyforcemu and turn the d-input switch pro controller to x-input for pc. I'd recommend you to use the 8bitdo snes30, snes30 pro, or preferably the snes30 pro plus instead to which all 3 controllers have the better d-pad compared to the switch pro controller even after doing the tape mod for the switch pro controller.
