Deck compatibility?

I’m reading very mixed things regarding compatibility on Steam Deck. So in present day, how does it run? What, if any, are the hitches? Wanna get this but only if it works nicely.

Runs pretty good in my opinion. I’ve played it on multiple platforms (DS, PS1) and it runs well enough. Better than the PS1 at least.

With regular Proton the FMV sequences usually crash instantly and with 3rd party ProtonGE they work long enough that smashing all buttons to skip is at least possible.

I've been playing the last week or so and everything seems to run well. Though it looks like the animated cutscenes that play during gameplay are just skipped? I never saw the one with Robo, but when I moved over to playing on my desktop the Ayla cutscene played without issue. I will say on the Deck the opening cutscene before the title screen is fine. I was using Proton Experimental, by the way.

I did some testing and I couldn't get the cutscenes to play during gameplay using Proton Experimental or Proton 8. But using the current version of Proton GE it played as expected. I'm going to be sticking with that from here on.

How’s the frame rate?

It works - no frame rate issues - sometimes it crashes on Frog's wall cut scene.

running perfectly fine so far (12 hours in). Haven't encountered any issues with the cutscenes

You have to hit "steam+x" to do the name.

Everything was working fine for a couple weeks, then last night, it started stuttering. I was running it on Proton 8.0-.3.

The FMV intro movie plays fine, but then the title screen starts up, and the ticking clock stops and continues, stops and continues. Going into the menus, you can move the cursor up/down and sometimes it doesn't respond (stuttering). Going into a game, and moving the characters around suddenly stop and continue, or the NPCs in the background stop and continue. The music plays continuously, but the onscreen movements are all stuttering.

I've tried verifying game files, and they're fine. The problem persists. Next step for me would be to re-install and see if it fixes anything, but I'm lazy and have other things going on atm.

It seems to work OK on Steam Deck now after several months where the game would lag every 10 - 15 seconds. I only wish I could find a good ReShade filter to make the game look better.

sorry for the necro but does anyone know if things have improved with proton/game updates on the deck? I'm only interested in playing on the deck but want the full experience of cut scenes, hitching I can deal with.

[EDIT] steamdeck freshly updated, installed the game and it seems to run without a hitch. Intro video played without a problem too. Had it running on the default proton (8.0-4). Can't say wether there are still problems with animations midgame.

[EDIT2] Halfway through. No problems so far. All the videos played as intended.
