Pretty much. DS is the definitive version of the game. SNES version is also pretty good. This version is only really worth it if you're addicted to achievements.

Right now, it's extremely playable (on Steam Deck) with two caveats - if I attempt to edit a name, it won't let me and locks up requiring reboot. Also, I've gotten to 65,000,000 BC and after defeating the first band of reptites, the game crashes. Sometimes it plays the cutscene, sometimes not.

So... probably a little better on a windows PC, but not better than the alternatives, IMO.

I came here to see if someone else was having this problem. Yeah, any time an FMV other than the intro movie begins the game crashes on Steam Deck. I got around the first one by getting past that cutscene on my desktop before going back to the handheld, but the same thing just occurred during the Masamune cutscene as well. It's all quite frustrating.

The DS version it's the best. Play this one only if youre a hardcore fan or if you love to conquer achievements.

This isn't really the best advice. If you don't already OWN the DS version, it's going to cost you around $150 USD or more on secondhand. You can buy the cart by itself for around $90, but still.

If you already own the DS version, sure play that one, but it's more unlikely someone visiting this page doesn't already own that one.

Pretty much. I own the DS version but my 3DS bit the dust years ago and I don't plan on buying a new one.

FYI, the update Valve released to Steam Deck Stable yesterday should have fixed the crashes, it sounds? Haven't had a chance to give it a try yet, but they did specifically mention Chrono Trigger in the Steam Deck patch notes.
