Question about grinding in Chrono Trigger....?

A quick question about grinding in Chrono Trigger - is it necessary? I near the beginning of the game - just outside the castle after time travelling from the fair. My usual tactic with grinding is to repeatedly fight creatures till I have bought the best weapons/armor and maxed out all of the items available in local shops. With this game, I have been collecting money for the same reason, as well as making sure that my characters have all of the tech abilities available at this part of the game.

You really don't need to grind for levels in Chrono Trigger. All I did when I replayed the game was to defeat each monster in each dungeon once and never avoided any battles. That was enough.

Only grinding I did was for money in the Hunting Grounds in 65,000,000 BC. By defeating enemies there you can get resources (Petals, Fangs, Horns, and Feathers) that you can exchange for gear which you can sell for lots of money. I probably would have been able to get by without it though.
