The size of this thing
I want to know how a game that could be no more then 2mb somehow takes up 800mb to install. Is this some type of thing where if the download isn't big the game isn't good? Just fill the download with junk files??? The original game came on cartridge!!!

Uncompressed and updated graphics are a thing... 800 mb isn't a lot these days...
This version has the PS1 animations which probably take up a good chunk of the data.

I don't think there's any upgrade to the graphics. It's pixel art graphics. The same number of pixels with the same colour for each pixel is there in the artwork.

Both the Steam and the post-March 2018 mobile version of CT are the worst versions released.

I played the original on SNES. I've downloaded the ROMs using an emulator to play. I see a couple of animations, but dangggg. 800mb???
the animated cutsceness and probably higher quality sound files would likely be the bulk of it. I had the ff2(4)/chrono combo on ps1 and iirc chrono first had some animated cutscenes back on that version due to the larger capacity of the discs over the cartridges (atrend started with sega cd with games throwing in animated scenes or occasionally something live action when the cds offered the room for them)... I still have that actually lol.

Cut scenes, improved music score (it's much clearer, and does not use the old SPC700 samples, it uses digital ogg-style audio, in Unreal specific engine format), updates to some graphics... etc. Plus all the programming stuffs. A bit of the 'bloat' is from the game-engine support libraries too.
You're not just firing up a single-game emulator here, a lot of it has been enhanced and graphics, movies and audio contain a lot of data, taking up a lot of space, basically patched over the original rom stuff.
Seeing as there's THOUSANDS of little patches that each do a specific tile, character, song, etc; it's going to add up. As the other poster also said, <1GB isn't bad.
Compared to a half-finished GTA V size game world I'm currently working on for BeamNG Drive (as my name says), The Los Injurus City Map Project is already almost 10gb, so <1gb isn't bad at all.
There is also the fact that there is more content added, and the translation has been redone. So know that there's some more goodies, not just updated SNES graphics.

It's all the Akira Toriyama animated videos they added. Each video is minimum 20mb and some of the longer videos are near or above 100 mb. that's really where the bulk of the size is.

There is a resources.bin that takes up over 400 MB of it. I wonder what that is.

There's a hidden enhanced texture setting that takes up the majority of the space.

How do we enable enhanced textures?
