Sound terribly distorted
Right from the startup of the game the volume goes to something 1000% and is distorted beyond belief.
I have tried compatibility modes for the exe, admin rights, disabling sound devices in the device manager, adjusting independent volume levels when the game is running with the Volume mixer. I'm at my wits end with trying to fix this mess.

How can this be so broken? Completely unplayable for me currently. Anyone with ideas to get the sound working?

And I feel I should point out literally no other game in my library has a similar issue. Sound has not been an issue before.

Open Device Manager, expand "Sound, video and game controllers". What options are listed here? (Just re-read your post, I think you tried this already?)

If you have one from your video card, disable it. For example mine shows "AMD High Definition Audio Device" as well as "Realtek High Definition Audio". I have the AMD one disabled.

If that doesn't help, do you have anything extra plugged in to your computer that you can unplug and try again? Plugged in via USB or some other type of port.

Ok. I should clarify my setup some more.
I have a desktop over a Steam Link. There is literally nothing plugged in to the desktop besides power and the network cable. There isn't even a screen on the computer directly. Absolutely nothing. I've tried disabling everything in the device manager besides the "Steam streaming speakers"
Like so: https://i.imgur.com/at9SpEz.png

And yet the problem persists. The first piece music in the beginning is actually fine, but then then when the pendulum starts to swing the noise becomes unbearable and distorted.

I see. I don't know anything about steam link but I know this game has some issues for some people regarding hardware. Sadly I think maybe trying to play over Steam Link is the issue.

Maybe someone who is familiar with Steam Link can chime in.

Does anyone else here play over Steam Link?

dBigB Did you fix the issue?
dBigB Oct 26, 2018 @ 1:10am
No. I tried reinstalling the game last week tho since there was some updates. But the same issue still existed. I tried changing settings and resetting them back to defaults and I was able to either a) get no sound or b) get terrible distorted sound that hurts my ears.

I've basically given up and accepted the fact that I've paid good money for nothing.

Hey, you can try it. close" virtual surround" and do not use Quadraphonic. use Stereo.

Was there a resolution for this? I'm experiencing the same problem. Running Steam in Win10 Home on Mac Bootcamp partition. No other game distorts.

Update: It's only the in game settings. Clearly a dev issue

I am in the same situation. Steam on Win10 Home on a 2017 iMac 27" through Bootcamp. This is the only game that does this.

Same thing here. It didnt do it on my windows laptop, but since that one died, i've been working with this. Maybe it's the macbook / bootcamp thing that's the issue?

@dbigb & @FEI, I ran into the same problem (using quadrophonic speaker setup) swapped to stereo or 5.1 and problem was resolved.

I'm not sure how to enable stereo with the built-in, but when I switched to my headphones it sounds great so it must be a stereo vs 5.1 issue.
