Why are the enemies so fast?
I played the original SNES version and I do not remember the enemies being this fast. I have literally been killed by bosses before I had time to move as they will have used "hit all" attacks 4 times before I even get to my second action as my first tend to be used to save myself. Is this supposed to be normal?

This is just a wild guess, but the enemy speed could be tied to the frame rate. So if the SNES version has 30 FPS and the Steam version has 60 FPS, the enemies get twice the turns in the Steam version.

hmmm... Might test and see if that is the case.
I did a test run of battle speeds on SNES, DS and Steam versions, clocking how long Marle takes to refill her ATB gauge at the beginning of the game if she's not interrupted by the enemies. Here are the times:

Steam:
fastest: ~0.3 s (hard to measure since it's so fast)
normal: 1.2 s
slowest: 1.9 s

SNES:
fastest: 1.0 s
normal: 3.4 s
slowest: 5.7 s

DS:
fastest: 0.9 s
normal: 3.4 s
slowest: 5.1 s

Fastest means the battle speed of 1, normal is the default battle speed of 5, and slowest is the battle speed of 8.

The Steam version is clearly the fastest, almost 3 times as fast as the SNES version. DS is about as fast as the SNES version, except slightly faster on the slowest battle speed. For comparison, in FFs 4-8, the ATB gauge takes 1-3 seconds to fill on the fastest battle speed depending on the game, 3-5 seconds on the normal speed, and over 5 seconds on the slowest speed. In FF9 PSX, the ATB gauge takes 7-8 seconds to fill on the fastest battle speed, about 10 seconds on the normal speed, and way over 10 seconds on the slowest battle speed.
Yeah, its definitely faster and good to see someone throw up some numbers to show it. Even wait mode doesn't work because the speed is still fast. I was able to knock the battle speed down manually in the settings and that helped. I know I myself was boggled when I set wait mode (I like to take my time with RPGs) and the enemy was still getting a couple turns before I decided on a move.

This was never a problem with the SNES version.
