Lol no. Please stop spouting nonsense. Your ignorance is showing again and you're not well placed to talk considering that you said that you played this port but you don't even own it. >.>

To the OP. Short answer: Yes. Though steam doesn't like emu topics and people are quick to report because they feel righteous doing so or something. White knights of the port, for the most...

no

It's better than the SNES version and aside from missing the arena (not exactly a vital feature), it's also better than the DS version

BTW, Zero doesn't appear to own the game, so I'd take that post with a grain of salt

From what I've seen from Dark Pixel Gaming, the game lacks all of the cutscenes, no beastiary, and like you said, no arena.

The anime cutscenes? It's definitely not missing all those, I've seen the one with Ayla's introduction and the one with Frog at the magic cave. I think only the first one with Robo is missing

I've been here since the very start among with a few people. Owning the game doesn't change much unless we say we pirated the game like the other smarty. This game has been a mobile piece of crap since the start even if SE tried to improve it. It's better but still not good enough...

I would certainly not trade the snes or DS for this version any day soon because why would I? I've seen the game "evolve" through patching and I'm still not impressed. SE should have thougth twice before releasing a mobile port that they just keep bandaging to make it pretend it's better...

They improved it a lot since the release. Cutscenes are there but for some reason one or two are missing. (The first cutscene is missing so people wrongly reported they were all missing.) It took a while but they listened, up to you to support Square Enix for at listening to the fan for once and patching a pc port even if it's still not a perfect version or play an older version. It's still the same game either way but this version is now good enough to be played and enjoyed unless you want an exact copy of the SNES version.

The two cutscenes that are missing Robo's and the Fall of Guardia so SE still has their head up their ass.

The best looking emulated Chrono Trigger or any cartridge game I think I've seen is on the SNES Classic, using Hakchi to enable bilinear filtering while disabling scanlines.

That custom setting on the SNES Classic seems to me to be the closest thing to what playing on an actual CRT looked like. And it looks so good that I'm perplexed at why PC emulators don't have that option in them. It easily looks better than all normal filters in emulators like Zsnes and Snes9x.

Here's a demo of the possible custom filters in the SNES Classic, and a guide on how to set up the custom scanlines-only and bilinear-only filters:

https://youtu.be/-9wu0Xohlts

All these emulator scanline settings I've never really understood. Scanlines were scarcely visible on CRT's, if you had your TV's colour, brightness, contrast, and sharpness set up well. Essentially, if things were set well, then the colours from the brighter lines of the TV would bleed into and obscure the scanlines.

So, they weren't really visible in my experience, because I would set up TV up to mask scanlines.

But, the image was still smoothed - not like the filters smooth it in a lot of PC emulators, and certainly nothing like it is smoothed in the PC Steam version of Chrono Trigger.

The bilinear-only custom filter setting for the SNES Classic practically nails how SNES games looked with the way I'd set up my CRT TVs. If I could tweak the scanline and bilinear filter intensities for the custom SNES Classic filter, I would like to try keeping scanlines but reducing their intensity to about 30% or less of what they are by default in the SNES Classic, and I'd try reducing the bilinear filter's blurring by a very slight amount - maybe a reduction of 5% to a maximum of 15%.

With the bilinear-only filter setting on the SNES Classic, none of the square tile in Chrono Trigger are visible - everything looks seamless. It's awesome!

Why doesn't SE just look at the SNES Classic's bilinear filter and make that PC Steam CT's filter?

I'll take some screenshots of Chrono Trigger on my SNES Classic and post them here. It really looks like it should.

I prefer this version, to be honest.

It has more content than the Snes version, including the Anime cutscenes.

It has less content than the DS version though (two anime cutscenes missing, the bestiary... and the arena). But I'm not a huge fan of the DS emulation. The fact that I have to have two screens at the same time means I can't have the game on fullscreen. If I put the main screen on fullscreen mode, I'll be unable to see the content that is on the other screen.

Granted, if DS emulation doesn't bother you, it may be a better option than the Steam one.
