Played the snes version. Still arguably my favorite game of all time. Willing to buy again if it is reasonable.
Also curious if they fixed the actions you can take at the carnival in the beginning (without being spoilery since OP hasn’t played). I read that was a big negative last I checked.
It's based on the DS port, with the anime cutscenes and the extra stuff, but lacks the bestiary and has two cutscenes missing for some unknown reason.
Works well for most people, has controller support, but also works with mouse+keyboard.
Is it better than an emulated version? Nope. But it's still a decent port for those that don't want to use emulators (I don't like DS emulation, for eample, yet I wanna play the version with the DS content and translation).
* The movement is sometimes very sluggish.
* There doesn't seem to be an exit button to quit the game.
* Shop doesn't show how much money you have left:

Also, thank you for being sensitive and not spoiling. I appreciate that.
WOW, just WOW. After so many patches they're still issues like that. Standing ovation for SE.
What happens on the anime cutscenes happen again in in-game graphics too. In fact, some people dislike the cutcenes because they are redundant. They are not in the original game, and were added as "extras" on the PS1 port. I like them, don't get m wrong. But they aren't important.
The bestiary was a neat feature on the DS version though. It's a shame it's missiong, but it's not that big of a deal.

anyway, imo, thats the best option to run many classic games: there are great and free emulators, almost bug free, without spam or adware, and most importantly: will all kinds of options to render the games and control framerate (so problems like lag are almost invisible). the legal issues with emulators and roms depend entirely if you own or not a legal copy of the game (and in the case of the ps1 and ps2, a console) to run a game.
this video explains the current state of the game. Even if its on sale, i wouldnt support it since many bugs and design problems are still present.

Do you have a controller to try? I heard of this lag for people playing on keyboard and mouse but I had no trouble with my controller. For the exit button, I think it's somewhere in the settings/options menu but It's been a bit since I played the game. For the money count I heard it's related to Windows regional settings or something, I'm not sure if there's a fix.
The Market in question which doesn't show how much money is remaining is in 600AD. Might not be an issue in other markets, but cannot verify at the moment.
I see there is a bookmark option (only when not in world map) to quick save and exit. That's a neat feature. There is no option to quit without saving, though, except ALT+F4.
The small bugs in the port are more annoying but none of them are a huge deal aside maybe from the store glitch but I played through the whole game, and never saw that.
