Chrono Trigger Arris Dome Rat Password

I beat the Guardian in the future, caught the rat, and was told the password. However, in trying to enter it, I just got these multiple colored squares on the screen, and entering it didn't work! I'm using an XBox 360 controller.

I reloaded several times, trying all combination of the buttons. Eventually, my bookmark crashed, and I lost all progress with the Guardian boss fight! (Have to beat it again :( )

This game is really buggy... Can someone provide a hint so the next time I go through that entire boss fight I can get the password right? Thanks.

You mean your controller wasn't responding, or it was responding but you couldn't guess the Xbox order for the buttons?

The controller was responding, but when I entered what the rat told me (it was some time ago now, I think it was A+B and Y, or A+X and Y), nothing happened... Also, I had no idea what those colored squares that popped up mean...

Those colored squares also pop up in the prehistoric era part at the millennium fair.

There is no consequense to failing it just try different combinations untill you get the right one.

I know, and I kept bookmarking the scene so I could come back later. Unfortunately on my latest try, the bookmark crashed (screen went black and program crashed, when I restarted the bookmark was gone) and I lost all my Guardian boss progress (the last hard save was before the boss fight).

Really upset about how it all went down. I bought the game to support Square Enix, and I thought all these bug complaints about tiling etc were trivial. I didn't think a bookmark bug combined with password confusion would make me lose an entire boss fight progress... :(

Assume it's the same input problem being experienced with the cat. Try using keyboard for the password input for now.

I finally did it using the gamepad, although it took several tries.

i used gamepad analog direction twice time. mission complete :)
d-pad very hard
