Just my opion.
My guess is that Nintendo holds some rights to the snes version but jeez, mobile port is bad...
Do they do the same with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ .jpg file as well, upscale untli its a completly unregonizeable mess?! Man what the hell?!
This has nothing to do with what's currently happening here.
Is irrelevant what people do or dont with the original rom, because that rom wont magically disappear from internet or the computers of people and so on. Also, is absurd to dont expect piracy from something useful or enjoyable, and even more so under a consumerist culture: the more demand there is for something, the bigger the supply; if the price doesnt match the pockets and expectations of the audience, the audience wont care to buy two or three times something they already own (be it an legal or illegal copy). If a product isvery atractive and can be found for free, people will feel tempted to get it, and you cant do anything about it (try to stop illegal copies from the bible, for example). This isnt a problem of the community of fans, but os square-enix as a business that isnt accepting the reality of the world outside japan (which sadly is something other companies like nintendo are suffering too).
You know why people still pay for some songs in online stores? because they can afford it, makes them feel they are supporting a little a band, and allows them access to a service that improves their audio-listening experience without aditional complications. If its practical, enjoyable and cheap, people will buy it before something expensive that doesnt offer anything new. People buy new experiences before other things, specially if they already own something that satisfies a need or taste.
The only way you can persuade and keep interest in a product, is to improve it in a significant way, so people are willing to pay for it again (people dont buy more computers for the same price if the second computer isnt better in every way).
On that note, there is an announcement of Valkyrie Profile 1, specifically the psp version "Lenneth" to get a re-release, i suspect an upscaled port is what this will be, but there is no confirmation, aside form the name yet. So let's see if they just like to dump all over their Squaresoft side, or their Enix side of things as well.
I don't think its this much diffrent form what falcom or xseed is doing with their games for ages, or do i miss something here?
It's a single player game in every way, shape, and form. If people want to use MODs to fix all the crap SE implemented or... cheat, I guess, it doesn't affect you in any way. Don't worry about it.
they have been making decent dragon quest rpgs since dq8 (except the hack and slash versions): they could easily have used part of the same assets to modify them and make a chrono trigger with the same quality, without spending as much. why they didnt? why havent they created the sequel to vagrant story or a remake with updated textures (which would be also cheaper than a sequel)?
Because they no longer care about their audience: it appears they are under a new direction and no longer care about their ip as works of art.
Actually, is a minority that uses modding for cheating. In most games, people mod to improve or add new thing to the game, sometimes also to fix or improve their own experience. An example could be the witcher 3: it allows modding, and while most mods are aesthetical changes; some can change the gameplay: those could certainly damage the gameplay for a new players, but modders are usually re-playing the game; one mod could help you travel or teleport faster, so rather than wasting time running like a maniac or with your horse searching the next travel point, you could just teleport to your destination to save time. If you want to hunt and grind, then you can still do so, but you arent forced to spend a lot of time riding from point A to B. You want to read dialogues or find new endings: wasting time traveling is absurd, and more if you also need to work and-or study.
If a new player mods a game to cheat, as long as that mod doesnt affect other players, its his or her own loss. Is fair.
