Reptite Lair - Elexir chest

Hello all,

Id like to get the last chest in Reptite Lair. Its available after waiting for one of the 4x 'Aecyto Weevil' enemies to dig a hole in the NE corner of the starting area, then dropping through that hole and waiting for one of the 2x 'Aecyto Weevil' in this area to dig another hole in the E side.

My problem is that I have been waiting more than an hour for them to dig the second hole. Nothing happens. They still walk only left and right. Is there something that has to be done to trigger them to start the dig ?

I was able to get this chest after progressing in the storyline.
