Btw, after defeating it, I pulled the switch behind the purple door, but can't figure out what it did :(
doesn't do anything YET. I always have doors and portals and levers in the world that I may use to extend additional content onto later. This is one of them.
I see he goes with Lightening IV and easily dismiss the Vortexes wheras it took me 10mins spammig Ball and Chain of Lightening lvl 8.
Not to mention the damage output of mana flux, I do not see how a chapter 2 party can make it.
My party ~85-90 is made of :
Berserker/Assassin/Marksman/Priest/Monk/Warlock
- After dealing with the vortexes with Balls of Lightening and luck, the Warlock summoned a level 10 Major Demon that kept the dragon busy.
- Priest was healing.
- Berserker was running after the dragon to do ridiculously low damage (20-40) with a Gembanger of Earth.
- Marksman can't make a dent with a good shade bow
- Assassin perfectly useless, too squishy despite 200-300 armor and no Force damage
- Monk got one shot early in the fight
Basically the fight was only involving 3 characters.
I know I miss boomrang (sold a damn good one recently....) and overall force damage and I did not enchant my gear yet.
Still how can a Chapter 2 party deal with that ?? I got a few arena challenges in Tartessos, my guys are not all crappy.
Do I miss something ?
If you have not enchanted your gear yet you will probably see a 100% boost in damage output just from that (because of how armor works), and you could also focus on non-phyical damage which could be your issue here.
Trying to stun the spectral dragon with either widowmakers or boomerangs and a very fast samurai/assassin/archer/marksman has also worked for some.
But it is still the meanest creature there is in chapter 2, and deliberately not part of the main storyline. It was created prior to chapter 3 release for bored over-players. So take your time and maybe come back with a chapter 3 bunch if it is too hard.
I am now farming the bosses before the CL.... The 2 other dragons dropped easily.
I'll buy again a nice boomrang if I can recall where the shop is, and I just got my hand on a better 2h blunt. Now punching up to 800 dam.
As for the gear enchant yes it is on my to do list but for this specific fight, I could barely get my Berserker in melee range. 90% of the damage was done by the Warlock and its Demons, that was also an issue.
After about the first 10 percent or so of his health is gone he will change strats to start jumping around the place like he's on caffeine, making your melee have to chase him down. You NEED to have the vortexes down quickly due to this. Can't say I quite understand their health, as they seem to go down quickly from large amounts of damage but not sustained, makng me think their Regen might be super high-- I never saw their HP bars during the fights, so I'm just guessing there. Either way, Have your melee form a wall while your Mages take them down with ball lightning. If you can get lucky, summon a couple angels to help as meat shields (The ONLY time besides fighting undead that I'd ever want those wastes of space instead of a time warp, lol).
It'll be hard and your focus needs to be on your healers keeping them up. when you're down to 1 vortex slowly begin inching your mages down into the bottom left corner: When the tips say to do this, theyr'e talking about THIS guy because he has no aggro table besides "What is in front of me?". The only defense (and why I say this is a badly designed fight) is to stick your guys down there and PRAY that he doesn't hope on a square during the fight and one shot them.
Now, during this you have some other duties: Whenever you see an AOE spell or a mass slow from him pop up your mage needs to be Johnny on the spot with a dispel or you're going to have a hard time: Holy ward is too slow to be tenable as an option to deal with the effects.
So, once you get the vortexes down it basically becomes a long waiting game of luck; just set your fighters to auto because it'll be a LONG time, and have your ranged people and your mages whittle him down with Lightning damage; If you have a ranged weapon for your assassin, go ahead and equip it because melee isn't going to be of much use for this guy. Once again, WATCH FOR THINGS TO DISPEL. That's the main danger for this phase's damage apart from an unlucky hop into your bottom corner.
Once he's beaten, flip the switch and pretend this guy never existed, lol.
The key to victory was to summon right from the start a lvl 10 major demon that would spam a crowd of smaller ones and use Chain Lightening on the vortexes. I could have done it a lower level with the right TP investment. I never meleed the beast.
I parked everybody in the bottom left corner and let the demons do their job with healing support, Withering Ray lvl 9 and Holy Curse
The fight lasted more than 30mins but I was never in danger.
