Is This Better than the old Gold Box Games, Pool or Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, etc?
I like pixel art turn based combat game, but is it better than the old Gold Box Games which seem so similar to this? I played Pool of Radiance using DOSBox and had to stop for the constant grinding random encounters. What say you?

Few points: I have added a few non-retro features, two of them are:
- complete auto-AI options for any or all characters
- fight speed options in menu and in-combat.
In combination, low risk encounters can be dealt with very quickly

In terms of comparisons, there are a few steam reviews already commenting on that, and here are a lot more opinions on the matter that you may find useful. My personal opinion (as dev) is YES:

Thank you for responding Mr. Elzner. The reviewer said that s/he would have finished the game if s/he hadn't run into an apparently rare game ending bug. Has that been taken care of?

it is not necessarily a bug. The savegame file got corrupted and could not be read. Out of 40000 players I have been contacted by 3 other with similar issues over the last 20 months. I cannot with certainty say that it is my game or just random bad luck, but it certainly deserves the attribute 'rare'. I have certainly checked my code and there is nothing there that should result in this.

EDIT: I should clarify that I THINK the above case is what it is about. The review is not giving any more details. The game has been updated 220 times and apart from new functionality taking a post-fix sometimes, the main game has NO reproducible hiccups (bugs). Rare things that happen to 1/10000 people there are two that I am aware of. Nothing you can't remedy with either the occasional in-game backup function, or your own backups supported by the in-game debug feature.

Also one thing about encounters - one sees every mob on a map, so one can practically avoid them (especially if one has disguise or high sneaking skill).
