Stalemate fights and balance
So I'm fighting a type of dragon and have been for a while. Dragons like some other creatures have a leap or jump ability but this seems to be causing obnoxious stalemates. I can take their damage, damage them enough to win but the SOB's never stay still long enough to allow my characters to attack.

There needs to be something to balance this like that ability takes mana (or more mana) so over time it can't jump/leap as much. He clearly can't beat me, and since he just keeps jumping away I clearly can't beat him.

Unless I can get extra XP from the length of fights I'm probably going to have to load a previous save and grind for a few days to make this "winnable" fight winnable. The game has become really unbalanced feeling and grind heavy. Enemies are "stale" so I get low XP, or way too hard meaning I need to grind these drastically reduced XP fights so that I might finally go after the OP characters. The inbetween like the fight I was just in are stalemates and useless.

I know the balance issue may be caused by player choices, random loot/gear situations and other "uncontrollable" situations but these high evasion mobs can be tuned. If my fights are taking well over 30 minutes I'd like to think something can be done other than lose the time and progress...which I did.

There are various counter actions in this instance:

- KNIGHTS GRIP skill if you have a knight
- BLEED damage because it will stack so you will win once the bleed counter is bigger then his regen. Use axes not hammers. Or swords.
- SLOW spell if you are in ch3.
- DEMONS if you have a dark lord feat or GOLEMS if you have a geomancer. They tend to slow dragon down and give additional damage here and there. High level NATURE ALLY with a wyrm helps as well
- high STUN chance weapons. Really good hammers or a boomerang or a fast/repeat 1h blunt.

All about tactics! ;-)
Sadly as per some of our other talks this is a lot of stuff I don't have. I was wondering if there were mute/silence or sleep type spells as I've not seen anything. I still can't even find people to train certain things anymore as the roster of trainers last I checked was outdated/wrong and I've found no one new anywhere for certain skills. Everything seems screwed up, and perhaps it is but the grinding low XP fights over and over has really killed my desire to play. I understand why fighting common mobs reduces XP but when that's all there is it's kinda demoralizing to know the more effort you put in trying to level the less results you will get.

The game is designed to provide the biggest rewards along the main storyline. What storyline step are you stuck in? There are plenty of trainers in the castle port city and Tartessos, as well as Elven city and the smaller locations like dwarves and Druids and archmages.
It is true I haven't deleted the old trainer references, but chapter 3 would need you to reorient yourself and find the new ones.
Essentially I need to get a demon egg iirc. I try to push the story but atm everywhere I go is either super low level fights I can burn through without effort or mobs that burn through me without effort. The "special" dragons I'm fighting now are the only mobs I know of that I can (barely) fight and win and not be massive nerf on the XP. I'm grinding in hopes to be able to make it through the fights that are keeping me from story progression.

Castle city and port seem to be missing a lot. For example I've not seen anyone that can train weapon swap since chapter 3. I've checked in with everyone I've found and haven't seen a few things I've been looking for. I'm not sure how big chapter 3 is compared to 1 & 2 but for being 2/3rds through the game there are still a huge arround of spells and skills I've not found or been given access too. I can't find trainers for what little I have and the skills I can find trainers for I'm maxed out on and no way to improve without brute use.

I think this play through is proably a lost cause and I should probably just start over some day. I know I'd love to turf my rogue now that I know they aren't needed for trap finding and lock picking. Also feels like how I tried to move the story along left me missing a lot (unknowingly) before I ended up in Chapter 3. Now my party seems weak and screwed up from all the things I missed, didn't do etc because I didn't know I'd be losing access to so much...or I'm just retarded.

I can help you with a few tips, but it may indeed be more enjoyable if you started over with the knowledge you now have on how you want to build your party. Have you joined the fan community yet? They are very helpful as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/198849273863516/
I won't use facebook. I'll see how I feel after this xmas business is over.
