Best settings for best performance

I played this game when it first came out so I know it’s old and there is only so much that can be done, but I was wondering what settings you all use or mod programs on modern computers that gives the best performance. Primarily the lagging and screen tearing. Thank you for any ideas.

That's just how the game works.

[Setec Astronomy]

Use DosBox Staging (not staging of Dosbox, staging is actually a newer repository made by different developers.) That clears up the tearing and makes fullscreen work, etc.
