A question though, not sure if its a bug. The woman that gives you the quest to Defeat the "beast Within" disappears afterwords. I'm sure she said she would give the player something... so...

it makes me wonder if you have to beat the boss by only attacking the child. i tried but i keep accidentally hitting the mother.

I think it really doesn't matter who you attack, there's only one boss name and one lifebar. In the end you get a bell shard.

I believe that's what she was talking about giving you and the reason the pregnant lady disappeared is that she was the first mother.
