Can't place windows and doors in highlighted areas

I'm struggling to finish farm dlc missions because I can't place structure bits like windows and walls where I'm supposed to. Placing them even slightly off doesn't count and I'm going insane! I was so excited for this dlc in particular as I've an obsession with cows but it's incredibly buggy. My main issue being I can't finish missions. I can deal with stuttering and lag and floating animals and odd response times but not with actual game halting bugs. I know I'm not alone but I really want some attention put into fixing issues like this!

I had the same problem and it turn all I had to do was make sure the barn doors are closed when I placed them.
