Item Duplication Glitch

I'm hoping that somebody else has come across this issue and a fix as I seem to have exhausted all the options available to me and I can't find anything on the internet that would help.

Items keep randomly duplicating when I buy them. Cans of paints, stacks of panels or tiles, even decorations such as paintings or accessories such as plates and glasses. Nothing seems unaffected. I click on the item I want to buy and go to place it in the house and there is one already there. The item price does not come out of my funds, the game doesn't even recognise that it exists as it can't be moved or, in regards to the paint cans/panels/tiles, I can't even use them to decorate. It can't be sold. The only thing that seems to get rid of it is restarting the game as upon reload, the duplicated item has disappeared. This is not a fix, however, as it'll happen again with another item later on.

I am in love with this game and this glitch is ruining my enjoyment of the game and causing great frustration.

I have already tried running the game in all three of the options that pop up when I click play. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I have tried fixing the files through the Steam client. I am at a loss at what else to do.
