Building Extensions
I'm trying to add an extension onto one of the original houses. Adding the walls is the easy part, although I would like to be able to sell or move the guttering and down pipes so I can take the walls right up to the corners!!
The issue I'm having is that once I've added the new walls the pre-existing wall the extension is added to "should" now become an internal wall, but I can't demolish it!! I can add windows, external doors, and some door frames! but they all look odd.
I should in theory be able to demolish this wall and make the internal rooms bigger!
Does anyone know how?
Thanks in advance
Jim

i am finding that you can not add on to the luxury houses at all , when i try to get it close to the existing building, the foundation tool turns red and does not let me interact , the only way it will let me build is that there has to be a one tile space away from the existing wall

It seems we have to use doors/door frames to get into the new space. Inside the new space we can add/demolish walls.

I noticed that as well, Derek. I liked using the House of Sports for my office (in spite of how buggy it is). Like you said, the tool leaves a 1 tile space. I tried it with the Cliff House, Dirty Laundry, and some others...same. The only one I could get to sort of work right was the Warehouse. I could build right up to the outer wall. But it leaves a wall that you cannot tear down between the existing house and new section. It doesn't connect like it would if you were building from scratch. Also, It seems that the gutters get in the way if you build a second floor, and you cannot remove the gutters.

biggest "build" flaw in the game, you cant demolish excising walls etc on pre-built houses, making the "architect" tool, pointless for anything but add a separate building, or a new "house".

yep, same problem, added extension to my house, but cant demolish the old exterior wall... rly hope they fix this.

It honestly makes the extra build mode completely useless on existing houses if you're only wanting to do extensions. I'm really hoping they fix this.

It wouldn't be house flipper if they allowed that so vanilla houses will never be allowed to be deleted completely..... and besides if you want to build your own from scratch Farm DLC comes with 3 empty plots to do it once you unlock them in the browser (optional for players like you without taking away the original point of the game)

I just think of the original exterior wall as being a load bearing wall

Yeah, the architect tool isn't what I thought it would be, but i am assuming it's a legacy of the actual game foundation. It was not intented to do that. I am suspecting they would have to rewrite (and break) a lot of code to do the things we expect from it.

I was hoping for proper basements, or attics, the ability to destroy roofs and replace them with different kinds of types. But halas.

I'm sure they'll take the feedback from this and carry it over to HF2

In the last HF2 livestream, they showed different roof shapes and attics and basements so that will be in HF2. As for the architect tool in the current game, what we got would be a compromise based on the the game engine used as well as years of code that would of had to be rewritten to get it to work the way everyone thought it would

The whole point of building an extension is to add new rooms. So I, personally, don't even mind not being able to expand existing ones.

But you are right - the fact that gutters and porches are "obstacles", as far as the Architect tool is concerned, limits the building options somewhat...

Also, I'm just curious: Is the Architect tool even properly usable without the Garden DLC installed? Because bushes are obstacles too, and I believe you need the Garden DLC to be able to sell them.

adding rooms Barely works. Tons of sh*t in the "original" building is in the way. And if you manage to add the room, you cant modify it since a stair (that was NO problem when you added the 'room')will be in the way. etc etc.
The whole "architect tool" is pointless besides trying to be a "teaser" for what (might) be in HF2

speaking of additions. Has anyone figured out how to remove the celing/floor between stories? So we can have a double height room, like in some cyberpunk and luxery rooms?

I was looking for an answer to that question, I hoped perks did something about it, but it doesnt seem to do anything in my game. If you find how to do it I would be so thankful. I was dreaming of building some open spaces.

just put a nice outdoor walking path around the parts that have obstacles in the way, here is an example I did at garage with bunker plot, instead of trying to do full wall I just did a couple short hallways, the bunker stairs were on that same corner anyway
