Chang Choi buyer
Has anyone successfully sold to this guy? I did exactly what he claims he wants. Green everything since green helps him study, a desk right next to the bed, plenty of bookcases, no tv or distractions, etc....and he still didn't buy! Is he glitched or something??

I also tried to figure out his specific needs by myself, but eventually gave up and looked at this guide:

He has very specific needs. I did it in the burnt house. Picked up the trash, didn't(!) clean, didn't renovate, put a toilet in the bathroom, but no shower and sink and put the items from the list in the guide I linked in the house. I also removed all the walls, exept of course the bathroom. He bought it. I recall, I even made a very small profit. But in the end I only wanted the achievement.

Thanks for the help, but it still didn't work. I tried both the abandoned house and burnt house. Followed this guide exactly, and Dolan Trusk still bought both. :(

You're right! Now, that I tried my burnt-house-coup again, Choi was only second behind Tusk.

btw, in case, you didn't already noticed: the ranking on the left ist not random. The person on top will always win the auction at any given point in time! So if you want to sell to a specific buyer, do it, whenever they jump on top and don't sell, if someone else holds the topspot.

But back to the problem at hand. I went back to my other profile, to see what I did differently, when I sold to Chang Choi, and realized that I didn't sell all the furniture that was in the house, picked the weeds and installed radiators. But this time, this also didn't help.
So I bought more kids-stuff, because Tusk really doesn't like kids. That worked! He backed down and Choi changed first place with him after I bought a ball and a plushy (rabbit).

I immediately put the house to auction, and sold at a loss. But whatever

If you don't want or can't afford to lose money you can try to sell it with radiators installed. But if you only want the achievemt, just cut your loss, move on and never look back.

So in summary
  • pick up the trash
  • don't clean the floor or windows
  • destroy the walls, exept the bathroom
  • put a toilet in the bathroom, but leave the sink-/shower installation bare
  • buy the May Corner Desk as well as the other stuff mentioned in the Guide
  • and additional toys until Choi jumps on the first spot of the buyers-list
And if that still dosen't work I don't know what to do.

Chang Choi was tweaked since that guide was put out. You can sell a completely renovated house to him complete with a bathroom and kitchen and all new items. He'll happily buy any of the smaller houses as long as you keep things to a minimum.

The key for him is to keep things cheap and simple. No clutter items. Nothing unnecessary. Not too much furniture; he only needs 2 shelves to be content and you can skip a wardrobe and just give him a small chest of drawers. Make sure everything you buy for him is the cheapest in it's type except for the bed; a nicer single bed works better to lure him into buying a house than the cheapest ones.

Other tips for him that I've personally tested:
Make his bedroom a kid's room type rather than a bedroom type.
He's the only single adult who doesn't hate kid's toys so use that to push the others down the buying list. The big bunny works really well.
Remove all radiators.
Make sure the house has at least 4 rooms.
His 2 shelves don't need to be in the bedroom/study, just in the same room as each other.

I was never able to sell anything half decent to him, that's why I looked up and used the guide in the first place. But your comment made me curious, so I tried again. I wanted to sell the Connoisseur's House and the Camping bungalow to Choi. But it wasn't even close! He barely ever scratched the top-5, was never ranked higher than 4th.
If I would have to sell to Chang Choi again, I would stick to the plan and sell the burnt dump, as I already successfully did.

I'm glad you got a sale to him! Congrats! :)

I've sold the Camping Bungalow to him before, but it was a tough sale. There's not a lot of space in that house for what works best for him (bedroom/study, bathroom, kitchen/dining, livingroom). On the other hand, the Connoisseur's House is too big. I sold that one to Chang Choi by doing up only the rooms that he really needed.

The easiest houses to sell him are the Burned House and the others around that size and price range, because they have enough space to fit what he needs while keeping the rooms small enough to not attract the attention of some of the other buyers. He'll buy them renovated, but it's not an easy task. Every choice of furniture has to be weighed very carefully.

The only real reason to sell to Chang Choi is for the achievement gained by doing so. Once you have that, it's more of a fun challenge (if you consider such a thing 'fun') to see what you can give him before he reaches his buying limit.

I had a pretty frustrating time with this guy because the Jonson family kept wanting to buy the houses I designed for him, despite there being only 1 bedroom and no kids´ toys etc.

For anyone still looking for a solution: I just bought a house from the tech expansion, 'hacker loft', and I noticed the geek was quickly high on the list. I only had to sell some shelves to lower Dolan Trunk on the list and put a desk and bookcase next to a bed and he wanted to buy it! I didn't even clean everything.

Sadly I don't know exactly what I did because I wasn't focusing on selling to him, but I believe I cleared some trash, sold some shelves, and put the valia desk and 1 or 2 of the venne bookcases next to the bed upstairs. I hope this helps!

For those still having a hard time like I was, I just sold to him. I got the hacker loft. He was the third on the list when I started in. I cleaned ONLY upstairs with the mop on the walls, ceiling (and far ceilings by the neon signs. You may have to jump on the desk chair or use a ladder), and the floor. I also put the computer that was on the floor behind the desk chair on to the desk (not sure if that mattered or not), and cleaned the bed with a mop, disposed of the random clothing items and just a few other items. I noticed the old couple jumped up on the list as I was disposing of the cogs on the desk (at this time all the wires were all off the floor), now putting Chang fourth in line, so I stopped disposing of items because they commented how clean it was. I then had to fix the bed side table to make it straight so I could fit a bookshelf. I got the venne horizontal bookshelf and placed it right beside the bedside table and then he jumped to the top spot of the list and I sold immediately. No painting stuff green, no taking out walls, just pretty easy. I was surprised. I made sure to pay attention so I could comment this to others right away😅. I hope that this helps anyone struggling with this achievement. And I hope it works for you!

I went out out of my way to try to sell to him too once Followed the guide to meet his requirements and the reason he gave for not buying it was something about too many Norwegians being in the area. I've seen that with a few other buyers too. Every Norwegian I've met have been wonderful folks. Not sure what the devs have against them.

I got the achievement today. I used the guide posted above, however, didn't have any of the houses named there so I used the one apartment (the one to move into or something?), cleaned and sold EVERYTHING, demolished ALL walls, no bathroom, no kitchen (which totally went against my inner interior designer), just the green mantis bed, actually three book shelves, the corner desk, the pixel desk lamp, a simple desk chair. All in one corner, tucked together. Painted the walls dark green. Put some toys there.
He jumped on top of the list for a moment, but was gone again quickly. So I tried this and that until I decided to "cut off" a part of the (now very big) room by placing walls (without a door). That did the trick.

It looked horrible, but I got the achievement 😅

With some of the buyers that are buy happy and outbid the buyer you are actually going for, the best bet is to just nerf the house by taking away things that makes the top buyer happy, until the desired buyer is at the top of the list.

I recently, some months back got him to buy a house, but it was a complete mess by the end with all the tweaking I had to do to push other buyers out. It wasn't a "nice" house by any means, but at least I got the achievement.

well opal night, the family is fine with toys and if i add too many it becomes a child room, the house also has a wooden desk and shelves which they like. besides wood there's nothing for them!
Opal Knight Feb 24, 2023 @ 10:41am
Well I don't know what you have, but I didn't have a kitchen. I thought the family really liked bedrooms and bathrooms. I believe I did have to have a desk item touching the bed, it was really close for Choi to give a positive arrow for it. You could see if destroying the bathroom might knock the family down, and don't have a kitchen. And make sure all the walls are green.
