It seems to be an unfortunate part of the game, old age and medically related deaths. They also need fed and watered OFTEN.

~I've not gotten to this point in my game, replying based on other posts

I saw some posts assume death because of aging, but I have never once seen it mentioned by the devs and I kept up with a fair be of pre-release material. I have the DLC and have not seen it and I have no idea why they would have included it in the first place.
