As for the rat in the toilet it was just some surprise and quite humourous and only happened in Luxury DLC.

You'll love the fixing and repairing washing machines and light bulbs in this game. Its for the handy peopel who love to fix stuff. If you need to know what suites you check out youtube there is a lot of vidoes there.
I don't like jumpscares etc either. I didn't notice anything scary in the Castle, it was just too dark which is annoying, but not scary. Add more ligts or wait for the devs to add options to it. Don't know if the update will make it daytime, though.
Samarta Myer's house, you can opt to not have the scary stuff, which I will do also. I just ... don't like that house, even with the spooky turned off. I'm still expecting creepy stuff anyway, you know? I'll either just sell the house as-is, or do a really rushed clean-up job and sell it to whoever wants it.
